GPS / Geocaching
Teachers and/or students will learn to use two emerging technologies - GPS receivers and geocaching - by locating data-rich geocaches hidden around the location of the training venue. Through modeling and discussion we will learn how to exploit these technologies to increase students' communication and problem solving skills across the curriculum.
Teachers will also learn about digital data and online resources that support the use of GPS receivers and geocaching in the primary or secondary classroom.
This is a three hour workshop that is a wonderful way to spend a teacher call back day and covers:
- Learning how to use your GPS devcie
- Geocaching around the venue
- Presentation on and discussion of how geocaching / GPS can be embedded in the curriuculum
- Review of online resources including integrating GPS with Google Earth/Google Maps
- Applying your new skills to your teaching and learning context
