BIO
Defining moments:
- Fell in love with teaching whilst doing voluntary work with new immigrants to the UK
- Whilst teaching languages at an Institute of Technology in Taiwan, began a learning journey into Educational Technology that continues to this day
- Back in the UK, was seconded to a project to support teacher trainers to embed ICT into the whole teacher training programme rather than it being an add-on optional module
- Became the Head of an ICT Professional Development Centre supporting schools in East London at the time of the introduction of interactive whiteboards and virtual learning environments. Exciting times.
- Project managed the roll out of the Literacy, Numeracy & ESOL Curricula across East London with special responsibility for embedding ICT
- Shifted to New Zealand in 2003 but continued to work for the UK Dept of Education setting up an online resource bank for teachers – her world was flat even before Thomas Freidman’s!
- Joined Unitec and taught on the Graduate Diploma for Computer-Aided Language Learning and undertook research into “computer-mediated communication” (Web 2.0 these days)
- Took a leap into the commercial sector and became Sitech System’s Educational Technology Advisor working with schools to ensure that they got the right equipment for their needs and access to the support to make it work
- Set up Breathe Technology to indulge her passion - ensuring that today’s learners have access to all the tools that can help them learn all the skills that they’ll need for tomorrow
Special Powers:
- Explaining technology in normal speak
- Coming up with some cracking ideas for using technology in the classroom
- Boring but true…project management
